On Friday 26 May, Year 13 students, staff and parents gathered to celebrate the end of their time at Macmillan Academy. Some students have been at the academy for 7 years, some joined us from other establishments two years ago yet there is a bond between them that will last for many, many years to come.

As well as a look-back over the past two years, students were shown the awards they have been nominated for by their teachers, which will be presented at the annual awards evening in September. The Post 16 team then announced their own awards, with the Getting Involved award being presented to a very deserving student, Grace Lilley. Grace has been a constant support to both the drama and music department, having appeared in every academy production, spring and Christmas concert and taking part in LAMDA examinations every year.

Overall first prize went to Joeanna Appleby, for her superb attitude and progress throughout her time in Post 16. Joeanna was thrilled with being given such a prestigious award. She said "after attending Macmillan Academy for 5 years and Post 16 for 2 years I have made some amazing friends and memories. The Year 13 assembly really congratulated everyone's efforts over the two years. But this would not be possible without the support of all the teachers and the dedicated Post 16 team. Winning the prize means a lot to me and is a positive incentive for my hard work".

After the assembly, there was an opportunity for photographs and afternoon tea outside in the lovely sunshine, a fitting end to a wonderful celebration.
