Macmillan Academy has continued the recent trend of 5 A* - C GCSE's by matching last year's total of 92%.
Macmillan Academy are pleased to report another successful year for Post 16 students. Jordan Harker leads the achievement with 4 A grades and 1 B grade and goes to Durham to read History.
Sports Day took place on 14th July and was yet again a great success. Each tutor group worked extremely hard and tried to cover every event.
CaVEs (Cultural and Vocational Education)
This year's CaVEs which took place on the penultimate week of the summer term, offered Year 9 students a fantastic opportunity to develop an area of interest within an intensive week long programme.
Enterprising Macmillan!
Macmillan is working with four other Academies in other parts of the country (Westminster Academy London, Grace Academy Birmingham, West London Academy and Manchester Academy) to produce a DVD highlighting the different ways in which the academies are enterprising. Because of the expertise of our TV studio, Macmillan Academy is co-ordinating the whole process. The Macmillan contribution to the DVD can be seen by clicking here.

In September Macmillan Academy will be one of the first schools in the country to teach the government's new flagship qualification - the Diploma. Macmillan will be involved in teaching the Higher Engineering Diploma to Year 10 students and the Advanced Engineering Diploma to Year 11 students. Designed to integrate the theory with hands on experience, students will sample training in the real world of industry and will spend some time in the workshops of NETA, a firm who normally provide training direct to industry.. When they complete the Diploma many students will progress onto university and obtain a degree. Others will find themselves excellent jobs or apprenticeships in local industry. Awards Evening is as ever a particularly special occasion for several reasons, however this year there has been one departure from tradition: invitations have been extended to guests outside of the Academy – so it gives me great pleasure to welcome representatives from Middlesbrough Borough Council, local Councillors, Radio Tees, the Evening Gazette and the Corporate Director of Children, Families and Learning. It is a delight that our students’ success and hard work is now being acknowledged in our wider community.
