Our aims are to develop well rounded individuals who can make positive contributions to a multicultural society whilst understanding where their opinions have come from and being aware and tolerant of the world they live in.

We live in a in a diverse, multicultural country and we should lead the way in acceptance and tolerance of differences and encourage harmony and understanding.

We have two subject specific trained staff along with a member of staff in the humanities department. We have a variety of learning mentors that cater for the Personal Individual Plans (PIPs) of the students to meet their needs.

At key stage 3 students have 1 lesson a week. At Key stage 4 they have 3 lessons a week and at key stage 5 they have 5 lessons a week. Each lesson consists of an hour. Subject support is offered one lunch time for 30 minutes and one hour after school each week to offer guided support with student’s work.



Key Concepts
  • We want students to have accurate knowledge on the diversity of viewpoints of the major world religions.
  • To understand similarities and differences between faiths and denominations.
  • To be able to use and analyse religious sources, understand the content in which religious text is written and how it can be applied to today’s situations.
  • Students will be able to apply empathy to the complex situations of following a faith in the 21st century.
  • We want students to appreciate opposing views to given moral and ethical dilemmas people face today.


Student Experiences
  • To be aware of the ethical and moral issues and dilemmas in the media and the news.
  • Visit different places of worship.
  • Understanding of culture when visiting a new place.
  • To practise all of the principles of Religious Studies outside of the classroom by being empathetic and showing compassion to others around them.
  • To have confidence in explaining and sharing their opinions and views, with not just other members of the class but their family and the community.
