To celebrate British Nutrition Foundation week here at Macmillan, we have been raising awareness of choosing healthy food swaps in a number of ways. The student nutrition action group (SNAG) have starred in and presented a dramatisation played in assemblies this week. The film is focused on the changes to the way we eat convenience foods particularly after the Second World War, and the effect this has had on the food industries practices. The SNAG looked at the 'bliss point' which is a term the industry uses to describe the point at which enough additives, fat, sugar and salt is required in a food to make customers want to eat more and more. The aim is for Macmillan students to become 'consumer savvy' and enable them to make informed choices.

A junk food amnesty is taking place to encourage students to make swaps from high sugar snacks. These snacks will be donated to Middlesbrough food bank who supply food to those who do not usually have enough foods to meet their daily energy requirements. Students will be able to swap a junk snack/drink item at tutor time for a piece of fruit and a fruity snow cone at break time. In addition to this, students are able to participate in tutor time nutrient quizzes, research tasks and listen to Jamie Oliver and Ed Sheeran's new healthy rap!
