Last week 15 students from Post 16 took part in a 'Bootcamp' fitness session here at the academy. The session was led by Jeff Hazell of Physical FX, who put the students through a series of tough exercises using equipment such as ropes, t bars and trx suspension bands.

Mr Hazell was asked to deliver a session as part of the BTEC Sport course in Post 16. The Year 12 students were given the opportunity to learn how fitness sessions could be organised and what activities can be included to help them plan a six- week training programme within the fitness training and programme unit of their course. The Year 13 students, who are currently studying the instructing physical activity and exercise unit, gained an understanding of how to lead sessions themselves as well as being able to plan different warm ups and cool downs.

All the students, Mr Coates and Miss King worked hard as Mr Hazfell demonstrated high levels of enthusiasm and the importance of good form and technique when carrying out different exercises.

There was time in the session for Mr Hazell to share his background in the military as a physical training instructor, give advice on delivering fitness classes and running your own business.
