Selected Year 7 students were invited to take part in a Medicine and Dentistry Taster Day at the University of Leeds, designed to introduce students to Higher Education study and inspire them to explore a career as a doctor or dentist.

The event was very practical and hands on. Students spent the morning in the Dental School, where they applied the techniques needed to fill a tooth cavity, take an impression of the upper teeth and make model castings, used for crowns and dentures. In the afternoon, students attended a medical lecture. Here they learned about anatomy, fractures and life as a medical student. Alternative careers within the sectors of dentistry and medicine were also discussed, so students were able to understand the diverse range of opportunities available. Students left the event feeling enthused about their future, their choices and with raised career aspirations.
