Year 11 visit The Thackray Museum

December 18, 2024

This week, our Year 11 historians had the opportunity to visit The Thackray Museum of Medicine in Leeds as part of their GCSE History course.

The visit was designed to help students revise and deepen their understanding of the British Health and People topic, which will feature prominently in their paper 2 exam.

During the visit, students worked in small groups, taking part in a self-led tour of the museum with supervision. They explored the key developments in medicine throughout history, focusing on the chronological changes in healthcare and treatment. One of the highlights of the visit was the opportunity to step inside the museum’s mock operating theatre. Here, students learned about the history of surgery and listened to fascinating stories about medical practices from the early 1800s.

This visit plays a crucial role in our Year 11 history curriculum, and we would like to extend a huge thank you to the team at Thackray Museum for hosting us once again this year. The knowledge gained from this experience will be invaluable as students prepare for their upcoming exams.
