The Post 16 men’s football team continued their impressive season with a dramatic 5-4 victory over Gateshead College in the quarter-finals of the league cup.
Macmillan started strong, with Callum and Zac firing in two early goals, setting the pace for a dominant first half. Zac and Harrison came close to extending the lead before Gateshead hit back, making it 2-1. However, an outstanding assist from Joel set up Callum to restore the cushion before the break.
Liam extended the lead early in the second half with a composed first-time finish, making it 4-1. But Gateshead refused to back down, converting a penalty after James was deemed to have fouled their striker.
Macmillan needed to put the game to bed, and Jake stepped up with a crucial goal, breaking through the defence and coolly slotting past the keeper. Despite a tense final five minutes, where Gateshead struck twice from corners, Macmillan held firm to secure a place in the semi-finals.
A fantastic effort from the entire squad! Next up: an away fixture against Sunderland College as the team continues their quest for cup glory. Well done to all players and supporters!
