National Careers Week 2026 runs from 2–7 March and is a nationwide initiative designed to inspire young people to explore future pathways and take ownership of their career choices. The theme for this year is “Own Your Future”, encouraging students to research opportunities, ask informed questions and take meaningful steps toward their goals.
At Macmillan Academy, we are embracing the week with a full programme of careers-focused activities, designed to broaden horizons, build confidence and help students understand the many routes available to them after school.
What’s Happening in School This Week
1. Careers-Themed Assemblies
Throughout the week, students will take part in a series of assemblies introducing key ideas from National Careers Week. These sessions highlight how different pathways, including university, apprenticeships and technical training can lead to exciting, fulfilling careers.
2. Tutorial Sessions Focused on Future Planning
Our tutor programme this week is dedicated to careers exploration. Sessions will help students reflect on their skills, interests and strengths, echoing the national guidance encouraging young people to identify their abilities and begin mapping their next steps.
3. Daily Careers Updates with Mrs Glasgow
Each morning, Mrs Glasgow will share a spotlight film, highlighting career paths, opportunities, local labour market information and tips on decision‑making. These updates aim to keep students engaged and aware of the many resources available during NCW.

Launching Our New Alumni Focus
This year, we are excited to launch a new alumni spotlight series. As part of our NCW celebrations, staff recently visited several former Macmillan Academy students in their workplaces. We captured their stories, learning how they navigated the journey from school to career.
Their experiences will help current students see the real-life steps behind job titles, a key message at the heart of National Careers Week.
Why National Careers Week Matters
National Careers Week is designed to help young people make informed decisions about their future by offering guidance, resources, and real-world insights from employers and professionals. Its goal is to empower students to reflect, explore and plan their next steps with confidence.
