On Thursday 6 November 2025, students from Macmillan Academy proudly took part in Middlesbrough’s Laying of the First Poppy ceremony at the Cenotaph on Linthorpe Road.
This poignant event marks the beginning of the town’s annual Acts of Remembrance, honouring those who served and sacrificed in conflicts around the world.
Led by Elected Mayor Chris Cooke, the ceremony began at 10:45am, with pupils from schools across Middlesbrough invited to lay poppy crosses in the Field of Remembrance. Macmillan Academy students joined their peers in this solemn tribute, reflecting on the importance of remembrance and the values of peace and gratitude.
The event is part of a wider programme of remembrance, including the Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service on Sunday 9 November, and the Armistice Day service on Tuesday 11 November, all held at the Cenotaph.
Macmillan Academy is honoured to participate in this meaningful tradition, helping to ensure that the legacy of those who gave their lives is never forgotten.
