Celebrating European Day of Languages

September 26, 2025

Macmillan Academy celebrated the European Day of Languages with a lively and educational event, bringing students together to explore the rich diversity of languages and cultures across Europe.

As part of the celebrations, students took part in a quiz that tested their knowledge of European languages, traditions, and cultural facts. From identifying famous landmarks to translating everyday phrases, the quiz was both fun and informative.

Throughout the day, fun facts about languages were shared, highlighting the variety and uniqueness of communication across the continent. Did you know that Europe is home to over 200 languages?
Students also had the opportunity to share the languages they speak at home or are learning. A wide range of languages were represented, including English, Arabic, Spanish, and British Sign Language, showcasing the diverse linguistic community at the academy.

The Importance of Learning Languages
As part of the event, staff and students reflected on why learning languages matters. Studying languages not only helps improve communication skills but also opens doors to new cultures, travel, and job opportunities. It fosters empathy, global understanding, and the ability to connect with people from different backgrounds.

It was a reminder of the value of language learning and the role it plays in building a more inclusive and connected world.
