Health & Social Care

The way ahead at 14

The BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care consists of 4 core units:

  • Communication in Health and Social Care
  • Individual rights in Health and Social Care
  • Individual needs within Health & Social Care
  • Securing environments in Health and Social Care

And 4 specialist units:

  • Vocational experience in a Health & Social Care setting.
  • Human lifespan development.
  • Anatomy & physiology for Health & Social Care.
  • The impact of diet on health.

Each unit deals with different aspects of the health and social care sector and
illustrates how people cope with the changes, experiences, problems and choices that we face in life. You will develop practical and vocational skills which will equip you for your future careers.

Unit 5: Vocational Experience, requires you to spend 60 hours in a care setting and this would mean spending your two week placement (in Year 10) in a care setting, such as a care home for the elderly or a day nursery for babies.

All units are assessed through continuous coursework which obviously means constant commitment to hard work to achieve the equivalent of four GCSEs.

Who will take care of your family when you are not able to?” Those who work in the care sector name the satisfaction of helping others    as the most important part of their job.

The BTEC is directly relevant to the world of work and employment.  This means you will need to plan and then carry out your own research for much of the course.  This is very rewarding as it helps you to find out about the many and varied careers options available to you.
