Geography

Why choose Geography?

Our world is changing fast. In order to be successful in it, you need to have the
knowledge and transferable ‘life’ skills to understand the changes and the ability to adapt to them. The new Geography GCSE course can provide this.

At the start of the 21st Century geographical issues, more than ever before, are at the top of the international agenda. Geography students will analyse these big issues.

The course has four modules, with optional units chosen by you. There will still be fieldwork outside the classroom and a controlled assessment which replaces coursework.

Studying Geography will enable you to find things out for yourself,  use maps, graphs and statistics, work with others, problem-solve and analyse. This leads to many different careers.

GCSE Geography gives you opportunities to:

  • Develop as effective and independent learners, andas critical and reflective thinkers.
Develop your knowledge and understanding of our changing world.
  • Appreciate the differences and similarities between people’s views of the world, its environments, societies and cultures.
  • Understand the significance of values and attitudes to the development and resolution of issues.
  • Develop your responsibilities as global citizens and recognise how you can contribute to a future that is sustainable and inclusive.
  • Develop and apply your learning to the real world through fieldwork and other out-of classroom learning.
