LANGUAGE – Model Essays on randomly picked extracts from TKAMB

June 11th, 2011

Extract and Model 1:

Extract – Radley Place

The Radley House Model Essay by Mrs Colabella

Extract and Model 2:

Ewells model answer

Extract on the Ewells

Extract and Model 3:

Extract taken from Chapter 19

TKAMB Courtroom Extract Model Answer

Extract and Model 4:

Extract from Chapter 23

Model Answer by J Fielding

Model 5:

Model answer by Mrs McGurrin

Revise by using these model answers to help you practise writing your own language analysis.

Try:

  • Reading through and highlighting each time a language technique is mentioned explicitly
  • highlight point/ evidence/ explanation and notice the ratio
  • highlight how many points are actually made
  • from all of this write a list of ingredients for the perfect language analysis
  • To improve your vocabulary for analysis, hightlight how many different words are used for ‘this shows’
  • create a table of ‘things I understand’ ‘words/phrases I want to steal’ ‘things I need to revise more’

Then, flick to a random page from TKAMB and analyse how the language is used to present a character/ theme/ event.
