Mr Atkinson's Year 8 boys came up trumps as his team became Tees Valley handball champions. Going into the unknown proved a strong motivator for the boys, who despite their inexperience in the sport, put in an impressive performance. With three wins and a draw the Macmillan team were able to dominate with a high quality display.

Strength in depth was the key as rolling subs and cover in all positions led to an energised and sustained level of performance.  In the first game against  High Tunstall B Ben Walton and captain Marshal Delph gave the team a 2-0 win.  An 0-0 draw against Manor College and a 1-0 victory over English Martyrs (Marshal Delph again with the goal) resulted in a 'winner takes all' match against High Tunstall's A team.

Jack McCallay got the team off to a flying start, leaving his audience stunned with a goal from his own box - around about 30 yards! Marshal then completed his trio of goals by adding a third late on, however it wasn't all plain sailing as High Tunstall struck the post and converted a penalty in the closing stages. Fortunately, that wasn't enough and Macmillan held on to claim the title with a two point margin.

Goalkeeper Jack Mccallay played outfield in match three, scored in the final and made many saves on route.
