During October half term, thirty three students from three year groups journeyed to North Wales, Snowdonia National Park, to take part in one of the first Outward Bound programmes to be run at Ogwen Cottage, now owned by the National Trust.

The centre was formerly Ogwen Lake Cottage, as advertised in the climbers club journal in 1904, as somewhere for climbers and mountaineers to stay. From 1964 high quality outdoor education was provided to schools within the city of Birmingham. As an outdoor centre, Ogwen had a formidable reputation for providing big adventures within the National Park.

In 2015 the National Trust acquired Ogwen Cottage and created a partnership with the Outward Bound Trust to continue providing outdoor learning and adventure to schools in the UK.

The Outward Bound programme at Ogwen was designed for our students who had previously attended other Outward Bound programmes in the Lake District. Some common themes emerged; leadership training, team dynamics and confidence building. The outdoors is a powerful medium for personal development. Students will recount stories from the range of adventures.

Adventure is a journey.

The academy would like to thank the Outward Bound Trust and the National Trust.
