Young film-makers from the academy are delighted to have seen their work installed as a permanent exhibit at Lindisfarne’s Visitor Heritage Centre.

On Friday 2nd September, students from Macmillan Academy travelled to Lindisfarne for the installation of 'Living History' films that are the product of an exciting partnership which began in 2012 between the academy's geography department and the Lindisfarne community.

As part of their end of year Geography CaVE (the academy's cultural and vocational experience weeks), the students spent time on Lindisfarne learning all about the island. They interviewed local people on camera about life on Lindisfarne and filmed original footage of the island. Back at the academy, with the help of their teachers, the students worked hard on editing and producing the films which are now exhibited at the Heritage Centre.

Head of geography, Mr Cox is very proud of what his students have achieved: "I am really pleased with the finished product; the films are high quality and I hope will be enjoyed by many visitors to the island in years to come. The project was planned around the use of i-pads as an exercise in 'project-based-learning' and has not only helped the students develop a sense of wonder and curiosity about the environment, but also to think constructively and creatively in the ways that they collected, recorded and displayed new information. They have really developed an appreciation of how the geography of this place continues to shape the lives of the local community."
