Year 11 geography students had a field work day on the Redcar coast in glorious sunshine (for a change!). The aim of the day was to see how the coast is being managed and to gather evidence for their Controlled Assessment, which is an investigation into why there are varying approaches to coastal management. Students looked at land use and land values along the coast and met with an engineer from Redcar and Cleveland Council who answered their questions and explained why a new £35 million sea wall was needed along Redcar's seafront. They then walked along the coast from Coatham Sands all the way down to The Stray, comparing the different management strategies as we went. Mr Cox, Head of Geography, praised his students, describing them 'A credit to the academy'. He is confident that they are now, 'Well set to achieve top marks in their investigations.'

Good luck!
