On Thursday 23rd April 2015 Macmillan Academy students joined pupils from Newport Primary School, Acklam Whin Primary School, Kader Academy, Archibald Primary School, St Clare's RC Primary School, St Edward's RC Primary School, Sunnyside Academy, Berwick Hills Primary School and Newham Bridge Primary School in the culmination of a collaborative project 'Middlesbrough Field of Poppies'.

During the service at the cenotaph in Middlesbrough children, dignities and member of the public gathered to honour the one hundredth anniversary of the Battle of Gallipoli (25th April 1915). Father Glyn Holland led the commemoration where all of the schools contributed artwork towards an installation presented in the flower beds near the cenotaph. Academy students across key stage three had their ceramic poppies show cased, 535 poppies and 10 white doves, symbolising lives lost and hope for the future. The Macmillan Brass ensemble contributed music for the service including the last post. It was a very moving and memorable event.

We are very proud of the achievements and involvement of the students. Indeed there have been many compliments and accolades posted.
