Students from Macmillan Academy have been recognized for their positive work in the community at the annual PoSBO (Positive Social Behaviour Order) Awards, which celebrate the contribution young people make to the lives of others across the region.

A group of 12-13 year olds along with some artists from Tees Valley Arts produced an animated film, entitled 'Nightmare on Flood Street' for the One Planet Middlesbrough project, which explored how climate change and flooding could affect their local community in the future.

With this film, they won the Digital Media Award with Youth Focus North East. Their film will now be screened and shortlisted for other film festivals such as Berwick Film and Media Festival, Kids for Kids UK at the BFI Southbank and at Hollywood Shorts. This is a real achievement for both Tees Valley Arts and the academy, which is very proud of its talented students.

The awards, which took place at BALTIC in Gateshead, are hosted annually by the 'Truth about Youth' programme which is funded by The Co-operative Foundation. Over 170 guests attended the black and white themed awards ceremony which featured performances from Newcastle singer Millie Eve, 'hic-hop' act Paddy and Lofty and also Kelly Hendry School of Irish Dance.
