15 female students from Year 9 went with ICT teacher Miss Glasgow to a ‘Girls and Gadgets’ conference at Teesside University aimed at promoting careers in ICT for women.

This was Teesside University's 5th Girls & Gadgets Conference. This annual event was launched in 2008 and allows girls from schools across the region to spend the day at the University and engage with all aspects of computer science.

Girls & Gadgets is designed to get girls excited about using computers and destroy the myth that computers are for boys.

In the UK there is a shortage of women in all computing careers.

The Macmillan academy students found the day interesting and enjoyed the Keynote speech and the various workshops they attended.
