Post 16 Sports Students Gain Inspiration at SportsFEST

Our Post 16 students studying PE, Sport, and Sports 360 were recently taken to Coventry University's Scarborough Campus to participate in SportsFEST. The day offered a fantastic opportunity for our students to gain inspiration, practical knowledge and valuable insights into studying sports at the higher education level.

The students engaged in a series of workshops, including Exploring Power, Mental Mastery in Badminton, Developing Lifting Techniques Proficiency, and Physical Literacy. They also had the privilege of hearing from PhD research students who shared insights into their current research and the diverse career paths it has opened up for them.

A highlight of the day was listening to Adam Whitehead, an Olympic and Commonwealth Games swimmer who earned seven international medals over a decade. As an elite athlete, Adam shared his journey to success, discussing his relentless drive to succeed and the pressures he faced competing at the highest levels. He also spoke openly about his early struggles in education, a challenge he overcame to become an athlete mentor with the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust. Adam’s message to the students was clear: remain authentic, true to yourself, and strive to be happy with who you are.

The event was an invaluable experience, and we look forward to seeing the impact it will have on our students’ futures in sports.
