WHATS NEW?

Training School

We are currently developing our training provision for our non-teaching staff to enhance their role and progression within the academy.  We offer a range of Support Worker InSchools (SWIS) qualifications.

Ideally, we would like to engage with providers and base training for these qualifications in the academy, thus allowing our staff and hopefully staff in local schools to access this training if desired.
Another exciting development on the horizon is linking up with our local HEI’s Social Care departments to offer placements for trainee social workers within the academy.  This looks to be a really interesting scheme which will support the university, the student and the academy.

Our involvement with TEEP is central to the teaching and learning ethos of the academy.  All Macmillan Academy staff are now TEEP trained and the course runs as an NQT+1 training course.  We are also keen to offer our support to develop this training model in other areas and institutions.

We have developed a bespoke Level 2 Leadership course for middle managers in education in conjunction with Brathay.  This has been showcased as an example of good practice at the Leading Edge Achievement Show.

We are now planning for a Level 1 course for aspirant leaders and a Level 3 senior leadership coaching course.

We are planning for all members of staff to be involved in a teacher learning community building on the success of our ‘Assessment for Learning’ group.  Future teacher learning communities may include ‘Building Learning Power’, ‘Literacy’, ‘Leadership’, ‘Differentiation’ and ‘Motivating Reluctant Learners’.
