Learn to Learn

In an ever changing world where many students will do jobs that have not yet been invented it is essential that students have the skills that employers want.

Learn to Learn is a skills based subject which has been designed to teach students to become more responsible, resilient, resourceful, reflective and to become better at reasoning.  Students should then be able to transfer these skills not only into their other lessons but also into future life.  The Learn to Learn programme also complements students’ outdoor learning experiences at the Academy.

Lessons are highly interactive and aim to allow students to experience real life situations and challenges.  Students participate in a range of activities from building towers, making cars, assessing credibility of evidence, solving a murder mystery and code breaking through to writing a whole class newspaper and suggesting environmental improvements for the Academy.  All students in Years 7 and 8 receive one hour of Learn to Learn a week.  It is planned by the Advanced Skills Teachers and it is taught by a dedicated team of staff to ensure that students have the best possible experience.
