GCSE Drama
This is a creative course that gives students the opportunity to gain a GCSE in the devising and performing of drama. GCSE Drama follows on from work done at Key Stage 3 but allows students to develop improvisation and acting skills to a higher level. Students will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of the elements and medium of drama and put the work they create in an historical, social, and cultural context. The course consists of:
- One practical workshop based on a theme or issue supported by written evidence. Written coursework is undertaken in controlled conditions, reflecting on the students response to the work completed. Assessment by the class teacher.
- One practical workshop based on a play text and a theatre visit to view a professional production. Both are supported by written evidence, responding and evaluating the work undertaken. Assessment by class teacher.
- A performance to an audience which may be either devised or scripted based on a theme issued by the exam board. Assessment by visiting examiner.
Post 16 Drama
It is useful to have taken Drama at GCSE level but not essential. It is important that you are interested in gaining a greater understanding of how theatre and plays work and that you are keen to be involved with performances.
This course requires practical, creative and communication skills. You will extend your ability to create drama and theatre, either in a performing or production role. You will also have the opportunity to write about drama and to develop your powers of analysis to become an informed critic. The course will involve taking part in drama productions, as well as studying plays and playwrights.
