The Library and Post 16 Study Centre
AIMS
- To provide a range of resources to support teaching and learning.
- To develop students’ information literacy skills to support their independent learning.
- To actively promote reading for pleasure across the whole academy.
- To support students' well-being by providing opportunities to develop their confidence in their personal, social and development skills.
Library
Macmillan Academy’s Library is at the heart of the academy. Refurbished in 2008 it provides an attractive, welcoming learning environment. The Library is well used by students before school, during breaks, lunch-times, after school and is used by classes throughout the academy day. Homework Clubs and Reading Clubs also take place in the Library during enrichment time.
To encourage reading for pleasure across the whole academy the Library features eye-catching displays and an ever-changing programme of competitions, reading promotions, activities and events.

Post 16 Study Centre
The Post 16 Study Centre is a busy, positive learning environment for sixth form students to undertake study and research. The room is open to students before, during and after the academy day. It provides books, journals and newspapers to support the Key Stage 5 curriculum. Stock also includes adult fiction and popular magazines to encourage reading for pleasure. Thirty computers, bookable laptops and printing and photocopying facilities are also available.
Currently, the combined stock of the Library and the Post 16 Study Centre consists of over 23,000 items including books, newspapers, journals, magazines and electronic resources.
