Information
What is it?
A set of roles to be used when working in groups to help groups work with more structure and efficiency. These roles are to be used on top of them working on the challenge set. The teacher would outline the responsibilities of the roles and groups would then elect the most suitable person for each job, yet these roles can be changed for future tasks.
Why use it?
It gives a framework to help groups work more efficiently as a unit with each member of the group making an equal contribution. Also it puts the ownership on the students to take responsibility for theirs and other peoples actions when completing a task.
How can you use it?
In your subject when you set groups a task, before they start the task ask groups to decide upon who will be responsible for each role.
Example
Example of the roles (you can use as many as you feel necessary or add in extras which may be applicable to your subject, not necessarily does everyone need a role/students could perhaps share a role)
- Facilitator (ensures fair distribution of work and keeps the group working to the task)
- Recorder / Scribe
- Time Keeper
- Materials Manager
- Quality Checker
- Registrar/Team Representative (can be used to report progress of group back to the teacher)
