Middlesbrough Maths Hub

As part of the Middlesbrough Maths Learning Hub, we would like to advise you of and invite you to attend the upcoming FREE opportunities available to staff and students. The sessions will run from 3.30pm – 5pm at the Academy and refreshments will be provided for both staff and students.

Mathshub - what we can offer schools

We would like to invite your aspiring Year 11 grade 9 students to a series of Masterclasses run by experienced A-level Maths and Further Maths teachers.

Session Title
Taster session (for current Y10) – This will introduce your Y10 students to the most challenging topics that they will come across in Y11 and whet their appetite for the forthcoming sessions.

CPD Sessions

We would like to invite your staff to a series of CPD sessions aimed at both developing subject knowledge of the new specification and pedagogical practice. The sessions to be delivered will include:

Session Title
New Specification – New topics on the higher course that have moved from AS Level   
14th June
This session will look at topics that are now on the new GCSE scheme of work and will demonstrate tried and tested resources available to take away with you. Please bring a memory stick to this session.
Metacognition in Maths  
20th September
A look into how students learn in Maths and ways in which to encourage them to become unstuck without teacher intervention.
Effective Feedback  
22nd November
Feedback has been proven to be one of the most effective ways for students to make progress. We will look at methods which will help to minimise workload whilst ensuring that students make the most progress.
Aiming for a grade 9  
24th January 2019
How do we stretch those students aiming for a grade 9? This session will be delivered by experienced A level Maths and Further Maths teachers and will look at ways to make the most challenging topics accessible whilst stretching the most able.
Peer assessment
14th March
Following on from the effective feedback session, this session will look at ways to ensure that peer assessment is used to its full potential.
Using Geogabra to support the GCSE course
9th May
This session will look at the Geogabra program and how it can be used to support your teaching from KS3- KS5.
