Training School at the Academy
How Does Our School Support Others?
It provides personalised and relevant training programmes which model good practice and complement the Teaching and Learning ethos of the Academy.
At Macmillan we try to offer a training experience that goes beyond that which can be expected in most educational establishments. We run a Teacher Training Week; offering an insight into the life of a teacher in a busy secondary school.
As Macmillan is keen to promote teaching as a career and we work with a range of Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) such as Durham, York, Sunderland, the Open University, Edge Hill, Northumbria and the Graduate Teacher Programme. We consider the experience of mentoring trainees an excellent CPD opportunity for our staff. In addition we support the Secondary Experience Programme, as well as hosting many ad hoc work experience visits throughout the year.
We run an extensive NQT induction programme centred around the Teaching Standards and our Academy Teaching and Learning model. This grounding is built upon in the NQT +1 training programme.
We have an innovative INSET programme to support our Teaching and Learning model based on all teachers and teaching assistants as members of the Teacher Learning Communities and our annual Teaching and Learning Conference.
These training opportunities are backed up by dedicated Thursday afternoon training time for HODs and Seconds in departments and whole departments.
