Specialisms - Science

Our current projects are detailed below.

The Outdoor Classroom / Garden

Another element of our Eco School Initiative, the garden, is now functioning well. Dr Katherine Wake is leading this project along with Astra Zeneca as part-sponsors of the garden. There have been several day visits by children from local primary schools who have benefited from the outdoor classroom and garden. It is an exciting time for such a unique opportunity at the Academy

Teacher Effectiveness Enhancement Programme

This will be approaching the end of its second year of operation. The generic approach of TEEP has spread throughout the Academy. However, it is its uniqueness in the approach towards teaching and learning of Science that has driven this project forward. The department will continue to develop this framework not only at KS3 but KS4 and Post-16.

Newcastle Science City Programme

We have committed to being involved and have the backing of Middlesbrough and in fact are the only school in the area who have the necessary resources to fulfil its requirements. This, again, is very much a work in progress and in the initial stages it is extremely exciting.
