Post 16 | Entry Requirements
To be eligible for Post 16 courses all students need to have passed 5 subjects at C grade or above at GCSE level (or the equivalent in GNVQ/BTEC courses). Each subject has its own entry requirements but it is usually expected that a candidate will have studied the course and got a C or above at that subject at GCSE to study it at Post 16 level. For some subjects we strongly advise that a B grade or above at GCSE is achieved to be successful at Advanced Level. All of these details are available in our Post 16 Subject Information Handbook. Students with less than the equivalent of 5 C grades or above at GCSE can be enrolled onto the BTEC First Course in Business. There are a limited number of spaces available to study at Macmillan Academy so you are strongly advised to get your application form in as early as possible.
BTEC NATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Designed to provide specialist work-related qualifications, BTEC Nationals cover a wide range of sectors. They give students the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare them for employment or further study, by providing vocational relevance and emphasis.
BTEC Nationals are designed to relate to the National Occupation Standards for their relevant sector and are eligible for UCAS points recognised by universities.
BTEC National Certificates cover 12 units of study over two option blocks and are equivalent to 2 A2 qualifications. BTEC National Awards cover six units of study and are equivalent to one A2 qualification. Both the Certificate and the Award take two years to complete.
Assessment of BTEC Nationals is through a series of coursework assignments which are internally marked and externally moderated. There are no examinations.
Essentially BTEC Nationals provide students with the opportunity to develop a range of skills, techniques, personal skills and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life or further study.
