Recent Events
Oliver!
Macmillan Academy, with the help of the PTA, put on a performance of Oliver involving students from all year groups. The production was a fantastic acheivement and the PTA would like to thank the efforts of all the staff and students involved.
The show ran for 4 nights and was a sell out. The PTA were on hand as always offering refreshments during the half time interval. Pictures from the event are below.
Sports Day 2007
The Macmillan PTA was ‘officially’ represented at Sports Day this year. The event was on 13th July having been rescheduled from 3rd due to bad weather. Clairville Stadium allowed the use of their ‘kiosk’ to sell water and fruit. The sale of water was steady throughout the 3 hours although the fruit sales were slower especially after lunch boxes were opened!
At 50p for water and 3 pieces of fruit at 50p we offered a cost effective alternative to the vending machines and despite stiff competition with the ice cream van and the low visibility of the kiosk a healthy profit of £30 was added to the PTA ‘outdoor space’ fund’.
Next year we aim to get approval for making tea and coffee and create some visibility with signage as well as finding a way of providing access by parent spectators to the kiosk
Sports day was a great success despite some heavy showers and the PTA can now add this to their annual events list!

Big Thank You to Asda at Portrack and Morrisons at Teesside Retail Park for their generous donations of chocolate eggs and the fluffy bunny. MURDER MYSTERY – A Night At The Theatre
A big THANK YOU to all who attended the Murder Mystery night on Thursday 25th January, what great fun!
It was a classic murder mystery, reminiscent of the old Ealing comedies.
The student actors were so confident, appearing very relaxed and so very amusing, many thanks to them.
The PTA would like to thank Allison Telfer and her drama department for their excellent work and for her original suggestion all those meetings ago. Not forgetting, that in addition to a fantastic production/audience involvement (it really did work so well), Allison also arranged a quiz, which kept the evening flowing so smoothly. It was excellent thank you Allison.
Our thanks also, to Jim McVeigh, Care-taking staff and to Simon from the studio for their help.
This was the first major event organised by the newly appointed PTA, so it was especially rewarding to have such a successful evening. A lot of effort went into this event, from planning and organising, to rallying support from students/parents/guardians/staff/friends/family, to supplying refreshments, donating prizes for the raffle as well as organising the raffle, and generally trying to ensure that this new venture ran smoothly.
Many did guess the murderer and guessed who changed the knife and worked out how the director was killed!
Prizes awarded: Quiz winners; “Best Comedy Murder Solution” and Murder Mystery winners.
Prizes donated by:
Karen Shields; Sue Jones; Anne Pink; Ann Cane; Morag Lippe; Kathryn Adams; Stephanie Green and Ian Holliday.
C’mon parents tell us what type of event would encourage more of you to join in the fun??
Aladdin Production
The Drama Department at Macmillan presented Aladdin on 5th 6th and 7th of December. This was a wonderful production attracting enthusiastic audiences every night. The PTA was delighted to provide help with preparations for the show, refreshments each night and sponsoring a raffle.
Lots of work was required in advance for this production. It was all hands on deck for students and staff and Head of Drama Allison Telfer also expressed her thanks for the help that she had received from PTA members with painting, stage sets and sewing
The PTA helpers were on hand each night to offer refreshments to the audience and cast. A mince pie and hot drink added a lovely touch to this festive occasion. Helpers include new PTA members who said they had enjoyed being part of such a key Academy event and would certainly be keen to help again.
A raffle for PTA funds was held over the 3 nights with prizes donated by PTA members, parents and Staff . The raffle was drawn on the final evening and a list of winners and prizes is displayed at reception and on this web site. The top prize was the much sought after Middlesbrough Monopoly donated through Karen Shields Chair of the PTA and a member of Middlesbrough Regeneration. There were 25 prizes in total including perfume sets, chocolates, wine and gifts
Whilst the final figure is still to be confirmed the proceeds look to be well in excess of £300 Well worth all the hard work! Thank you to all who contributed.
A suggestion for next year perhaps the PTA should have been in costume? (well maybe not!!)
All parents are automatically members of the PTA and the committee would be delighted to welcome you to any future events and meetings.
