Sociology aims to prepare young people for life and work in modern society by offering examples, studying and understanding of our contemporary society.
As a new subject for students Sociology challenges traditional school conventions which may inhibit learning.
Sociology aims to facilitate the progressive learning process by raising the Sociological awareness of students and aiding the development of their Sociological imagination by:
- listening and responding to students,
- encouraging and where appropriate praising them,
- recognising and handling misconceptions,
- building on responses and steering them towards new learning and clearer understanding.
All in an environment with positive attitudes to gender equality, cultural diversity and free from ethnic bias.
