Academy Prospectus
Thank you for your interest in Macmillan Academy. I hope you find this Prospectus informative.
Our recent OFSTED inspection graded us as a “highly effective Academy with many outstanding features”. What was particularly pleasing was the recognition of happy, safe, well behaved students whose commitment to succeed is excellent. Teaching was graded as 85% of lessons good to excellent with over 50% very good and excellent. Our own evidence supports this continuing trend.
This form of accreditation contributes to a very high standard of examination results. Although margins at the top are narrow each year, over 90% of Year 11 students achieve the national standard of 5 A*-C GCSE passes. At Key Stage 3, more students each year are achieving the highest standards of pass at levels 6, 7 and 8. 20% of the year group for Maths at Level 8. Post 16 results continue on an upward trend and enable very high numbers of students to transfer to University.
A feature of Macmillan has been the building programmes that have provided new accommodation in Art and Design, Modern Foreign Languages, a dining room, Post 16 facilities and a Learning Centre. This continues in the Academy and the £13 m building and refurbishment programme will be complete by September 2007 providing new teaching areas for Science, Physical Education, Outdoor Education, Mathematics and ICT with a significant refurbishment of the existing areas originally built in the 1960s.
Students arriving in September 2007 will experience innovative approaches to learning, individual support and ultimately in their time with us, new subject opportunities. Equally the raising of the social and cultural horizons of our students involves many enriching experiences through innovative practice, collaborative ties, educational visits both at home and abroad and success in national competitions.
Our motto is ‘inspiring every student to succeed’ and we encourage that within a spirit of co-operation and due regard to personal care and health, and a commitment to sustainability.
I hope you are able to take the opportunity to look around the Academy and to meet the staff and students in order to have a real sense of what we are capable of achieving.
Yours sincerely
K U Fraser
Principal
